Money Visualized
Money Visualized
This post is all about visualizing various sums of money, starting with a “small” amount and gradually working our way up to $1 Trillion Dollars.
$10 Thousand Dollars
This stack of 100 $100 dollar bills could fit in a pocket or purse and would fund a nice month long vacation (or an extravagant weekend).

$1 Million Dollars
Surprisingly, this amount looks way better on paper than it does when lying on the floor like in the photo below. Notice how the guy in the photo is looking disappointingly at his small stack of money.

$100 Million Dollars
Now we are talking! To go from having $1 Million to $100 Million is a drastic increase. We are talking about the difference between having $1 and $100 dollars and we all know that those two amounts are worlds apart from each other.

$1 Billion Dollars
Fact: Billionaires as a whole own 1% of all the world’s assets. So to put that another way, they own 1% of EVERYTHING. Granted one person doesn’t own 1% of everything, but there are less than 1,000 billionaires in the world and splitting 1% of EVERYTHING between less than 1,000 people sounds like a pretty good deal.

$1 Trillion Dollars
This is $1 Trillion dollars. Currently there are no Trillionaires, but who knows, maybe one day.
To date, the US Government has put $23.7 Trillion dollars of tax payer money on the line for stimulating the economy, and other government programs. However, as a country, the US only produces $14 Trillion a year. Looks like someone has gone over their credit limit and needs to talk to the Bank of China about raising their limit so they can borrow more money.
“Come on China let me borrow $10 Trillion, you know I’m good for it. Plus you know I have military shopping to do and stimulus bills to pay.” -Barack Obama
Disclaimer: He didn’t really say that.
Disclaimer to the disclaimer: While he didn’t say that verbatim, the request to borrow more money was implied through the actions of his Treasury Secretary Tim Geitner, who earlier this year reassured the Chinese government that they should keep buying our debt because we are going to pay off our debt (at some point) in the future.)

Below is a great video that visualizes $1 Trillion Dollars. Its still interesting to me when people talk about this number so nonchalantly.
